The insight I wished I’d had early in my teaching career
I’ve been teaching since 2008, and like Claire, I received next to no training on managing or understanding behaviour. “Don’t smile til Christmas”, “Give them an inch and they’ll take a mile” and “copy what your lead teacher does” was pretty much the extent of what I learnt over four years of my teaching degree. "I have learnt more about behaviour management from this book than I have across 11 years of teaching!
So much more helpful than any of the training I have ever received - whilst lots of people have previously said about increasing challenge, it just doesn't work as a stand alone and this book lays everything out perfectly. I am an experienced Australian Secondary English teacher and senior leader, specialising in supporting students with complex social, emotional and mental health needs. Over my career, I have worked across the United Kingdom and Australia, dedicated to transforming volatile, challenging, and chaotic learning environments into places of safety, support, and learning.
With an unwavering belief that in order to champion all students, you must first champion all teachers, I founded The Unteachables Academy, where I am dedicated to providing teachers with the actionable and relevant support, mentorship, and training, they need and deserve!
This book is a tapestry of the millions of micro moments that have shaped me as a teacher.
